Dentures

Dentures do not last forever; the bones which support the dentures are slowly suffering resorption.  This happens over a period of years and is not obvious.  The longer you allow conditions like this to persist, the shape of your face changes to accommodate these new conditions, muscles lose their correct lengths.

FULL DENTURES

A full denture is used when all the teeth are missing, it is a removable appliance designed to replace the natural teeth on either your upper or lower jaw.  It is a way of providing support for cheeks and lips.  Without this support, you may find that your facial muscles start to sag.

Each case will be meticulously examined, with the best possible solution for your needs recommended.  They will then be fabricated, in our on-site laboratory.

Having a denture will assist you with chewing, eating, and speech, while supporting facial muscles to reduce sagging and giving you confidence in your smile.

PARTIAL DENTURES

partial denture, as the name suggests, is to replace some missing teeth in either or both the upper or lower arch.  It is important to replace missing teeth for several reasons:

  • Appearance
  • Chewing ability
  • Support of remaining teeth
  • Support of an opposing dentition

A partial denture will also preserve the rest of your natural teeth and prevent them from shifting into different positions.

Partial Dentures

There are different types of partial dentures that we offer, including:

Acrylic partial dentures

Acrylic partial dentures are the lowest cost and because of the ease of repair, reline or addition of further teeth, are generally advised where remaining dentition is doubtful or tooth loss is significant. Most acrylic dentures will have stainless steel retention, but in some cases that may not be necessary. Another retention option for acrylic dentures is clear or tooth coloured resin retainers.

Flexible partial dentures

Flexible partial dentures are made from thermoplastic nylon. They are flexible, translucent and require no metal retainers because of the flexibility of the base to retain the denture. Flexible partial dentures may be added to like other dentures.

Benefits include:

  • Easy to adjust, grind and polish
  • Injected for proven accuracy
  • Easy chairside adjustment
  • Clear clasps; no more matching tooth shades
  • Better impact and stain resistance

Cast metal partial dentures

Cast metal partial dentures are generally thinner and smaller in the mouth than most other options and of course, offer great strength and stability as well as support for remaining teeth. Because of the rigid frame, it is also possible to transfer bite forces to remaining teeth, rather than supporting gums, by the use of metal rests on the occlusal surface of the supporting teeth. They offer many and varied choices with design.

IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURES

An implant-supported overdenture is a type of denture that is supported by and attached to dental implants as well as resting on the gums. It is used when a person does not have any teeth or regions without teeth in their jaw, but has enough bone in their jaw to support dental implants.

Benefits of Implant retained Dentures

  • Implant retained overdentures provide you with more stability in comparison to conventional dentures
  • No need for denture adhesives
  • Allows you to eat nearly all kind of food and avoids uncomfortable situations while speaking
  • Help to maintain your facial structures by preserving the remaining bone in your jaws
  • Minimise gum tissue shrinkage

RELINES

After a period of time, under the influence of saliva and other fluids you may notice your dentures are loose, uncomfortable or unstable it usually means they require relining. To help extend the life of your denture, we recommend that they be relined every 2 to 3 years.

If you are unsure whether your denture needs to be relined, we are happy to offer you a free initial consultation where we will assess the condition of your denture and help you extend its life and comfort as much as possible. Call us today to make an appointment.

REPAIRS

Unfortunately, denture accidents happen. A tooth may have fallen off, your denture may be cracked or broken, or a wite clasp may feel loose, then it is most likely you will need a repair.

At Coolican Denture Clinic we can guarantee you a fast turnaround for your repair.

We offer:

  • Same-day emergency repairs
  • Fast turnaround times (within hours)

Please note: If your denture breaks, under no circumstances should you ever attempt to repair your denture by using superglue or any other adhesives. If you attempt to glue your broken denture back together we cannot guarantee that it will fit and function as it did before, and could possibly continue to keep breaking in the future.
